Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training, located in Sarasota, Florida, is a three-year graduate program culminating in a Master of Fine Arts degree through the Florida State University School of Theatre. Considered to be one of America’s leading acting schools, the Conservatory trains actors of the highest caliber in a professional theatre environment through classroom work and production experience. The program has been recognized in The New York Times, U.S. News, World Report, and The Princeton Review through their national rankings and articles about top graduate level training programs.
Every Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory MFA candidate receives a full tuition waiver from Florida State University, and an assistantship to help defray living expenses, supported by Asolo Scholarship donors. The Asolo Repertory Theatre and Florida State University together fund the second year students study in London. Every student graduates with Equity eligibility, through work with the Asolo Repertory Theatre, as understudies in their first year, and as associate members of the acting company in their third year.
Annually, the Conservatory auditions over 1,000 actors in four locations nationwide from which a maximum of 12 students are chosen.
Prior to beginning the application process, all prospective students must audition for the program. After receiving and accepting an offer from the FSU/Asolo Conservatory, you will receive a Conservatory application and instructions for the FSU admissions process. Do not begin a formal application before receiving an offer from the Director of the Conservatory.
To be eligible for admission and an assistantship, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in the last two years of college work or an acceptable score on the combined verbal and quantitative portions of the Graduate Record Examination taken within the last 5 years.
Private auditions are 20 minutes each and guarantee an opportunity to present work (two contrasting monologues: one classical and one contemporary) and interview with our faculty. To arrange a private audition, please visit https://tickets.theatre.fsu.edu/asolo/Online/default.asp. After paying the $50 audition fee, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to submit your headshot and resume. You will receive a final confirmation email from the Conservatory with your audition date and time.
Requests for auditions will be accepted beginning October 1, 2023 and the deadline is January 5, 2024. Thereafter, walk-in audition requests will be accepted as available at all audition city locations.
