Theatre Student Wins Master’s in Four Competition

Published April 15, 2020

Graduate students from all over the university presented their research as part of the 2020 Master’s in Four Competition. The contest challenges students to explain their complex research to a general audience in an informative and accessible way in under four minutes. Jay Pension (MFA Theatre Management, 2020) was declared this year’s winner of the competition while Moletedi One Ntseme (MFA Theatre Management, 2021) was recognized as a finalist.

Jay Pension shared that, “participating in Master’s in Four seemed like a great opportunity to develop some of the things I’ve been working on and be able to explain it in a very brief amount of time to someone who might not understand the typical jargon that goes into a lot of academic programs.” Jay’s presentation, “Connecting Consumers with the Arts”, focused on encouraging consumers to invest in experiences in the arts instead of a product. Moletedi’s presentation, “Passion into Profession”, focused on using arts administration to develop art in Botswana.

Judy Devine, Senior Associate Dean for the Graduate school, explained that the Master’s in Four, “was created by the FSU Graduate School in response to faculty who wanted a competition for their master’s students…The purpose is for master’s students to explain their research or creative endeavor to a general audience.”
