Summer Music Theatre Intensive

The Music Theatre Intensive is a summer workshop for high school students entering their junior or senior year who are pursuing music theatre at the collegiate level. The Intensive takes place over a two-week period culminating in a final cabaret that is open to the public.

Eligibility

The Summer Music Theatre Intensive is open to high school students entering their junior or senior year.

Application and Acceptance

Acceptance to the Summer Music Theatre Intensive is conducted through a pre-screen process. Applicants can submit a pre-screen beginning November 1, 2024 at https://app.getacceptd.com/fsutheatre.

Applications to the Summer Music Theatre Intensive consist of a headshot, theatrical resume, a video of two contrasting songs (16 bar cuts, an uptempo and a ballad), a short clip of a dance combination (jazz or ballet), and a video of a contemporary monologue.

All application and audition materials must be received by February 15, 2025.

Costs

The cost of the Music Theatre Intensive two-week program is $2800, which includes:

  • Tuition
  • Fees
  • Housing
  • Meals

It does NOT include:

  • Transportation to and from Tallahassee
  • Miscellaneous expenses
Curriculum

The School of Theatre’s Music Theatre Intensive program welcomes students of varying training and skill levels, however, it is not a typical summer camp. MTI is an intense program designed for high school students that intend to pursue a degree or career in music theatre.

Faculty & Staff

The faculty for the Summer Music Theatre Intensive will include the Program Heads for the Music Theatre and Acting programs, distinguished faculty from the School of Theatre, and accomplished alumni. 

Counselors will be assigned to each group of students and will live in the residence halls, on the same floor as the students. Counselors are responsible for the safety and well being of each student, and are trained in CPR and rigorous emergency procedures as mandated by the university. 

Housing and Meals

All Music Theatre Intensive students will be housed on campus in residence halls. Meals will be provided through the university’s dining services. 

Attire

Clothing should be appropriate to the assigned activity and must be free of inappropriate slogans or graphics.
