BA Theatre Program
The Bachelor of Arts is a flexible liberal arts degree offering an extensive knowledge of theatre arts. The program, offering a balance of theatre core classes and electives, allows students the freedom to design their own curriculum. This is an ideal program for a student with multiple interests in theatre. In a given semester, the School of Theatre offers classes in performance, directing, various aspects of design and technical work, specific areas of theatre history and performance studies, dramaturgy, theatre management, playwriting, play analysis, and stage makeup. BA students may blend theatre training with a different academic pursuit by minoring or double-majoring in such areas as English, Humanities, Education, or other disciplines offered at FSU. BA students take an active part in production work. Students interested in performing can audition for roles in any of our productions. Students can also be involved as stage managers and can participate in various production assignments and tech crews.

Program Overview
Theatre core requirements include courses in performance, technical theatre, design, and theatre history. Electives can be fulfilled with additional theatre courses or from other areas of study in the university.

The ideal program for a student with multiple interests in theatre, the BA program offers the opportunity to study in all aspects of the theatre world. BA students may blend their theatre training with a different academic pursuit by selecting a minor or double major in other disciplines at FSU.

How to Apply
All students must complete an application to Florida State University and be accepted. Applicants must adhere to FSU Office of Admissions deadlines and requirements.
Focus Tracks
After completing their foundation courses, BA students declare a Focus Track. These tracks provide advanced-level coursework in a particular area of study within the vast art of theatre.
Performance: The Performance Track offers the student practical, exploratory engagement with the tools of the acting and directing process.
Design & Production: The Design & Production Track brings the student behind the scenes to experience the artistry of theatrical creation in design, media and technology.
Stage Management: The Stage Management Track prepares the student with the managerial, leadership, and communication skills necessary to support the production process.
Theatre Theory & Performance: The Theatre Theory & Performance Track offers the student critical skills in theory, dramaturgy and the transformation of documents into performance.

Learn MoreThe undergraduate program also offers students to attend our London Theatre Program! Perhaps no other college or university has a finer London Study Center than Florida State University. Our theatre students work with some of England’s best teachers and artists as well as with faculty from the Tallahassee campus. They attend theatre every week (some attend every day) and visit other countries during their breaks. Studying theatre in London is an extraordinary experience.
