Ahon Gooptu is pursuing an MA in Theatre & Performance Research at Florida State University. He holds a BA in Theatre and English along with a concentration in Technology Studies from Grinnell College. He also trained for a semester under the National Theater Institute at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center.

His research centers on the intersections between postcolonial theory, queer studies, and migrant and immigrant theatre in the United States, particularly South Asian diaspora theatre. He also conducted extensive research on the “absent presence” in the Shakespearean canon. This work culminated in a digital mapping project called Mapping Absence in Shakespeare and a published chapter in Shakespeare and Digital Pedagogy: Strategies for Teaching and Learning, which he co-authored with Dr. John Garrison (Professor of English, Grinnell College).

Gooptu is also an actor and writer and recently published a collection of short plays entitled All That Glistens. He has completed education internships with Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago and Taproot Theatre in Seattle.
