The School of Theatre Partners with Alums to Workshop New Comedy

The School of Theatre partnered with the Merrimack Theatre and alum Sean Daniels in the exciting process of working on a new comedy called THE VILLAINS’ SUPPER CLUB. The play begins with a gang of villains that get together on New Year’s Eve to impress their boss. An invite to The Villains’ Supper Club is a big deal and nobody wants to mess it up. Chaos and fabulous stage combat ensue as an assassination plot collides with the intrepid heroine’s attempts to conquer evil. Playwright Lila Rose Kaplan says,

“I’m still figuring out the rest, but I do know that all the men will die fabulous and gruesome stage deaths, there will be some romance, some mistaken identity, and at least one food fight, oh, and a song.”

FSU School of Theatre alum and Artistic Director of the Merrimack Repertory Theatre, Sean Daniels, is directing the piece. One of the parts is being written for FSU alum John Gregorio who will also be in residence along with Kaplan and Daniels. The cast will also feature seven current FSU School of Theatre students. The company from Merrimack Rep will be in residence for a week culminating in a reading of the piece.

THE VILLAINS’ SUPPER CLUB is fiercely funny and fiercely feminist. It promises to be heartwarming and hilarious while asking honest questions about what it’s like to be a new mom and work, even if your work is taking down super villains.
