FSU Alum’s Lighting Design Featured in PLSN Magazine

Published October 19, 2015

The Lighting Design of School of Theatre Alum Richard T. Chamblin III (MFA Lighting Design, 2010) was featured in the September issue of PLSN Magazine. The show was heralded as “The Queen Mary of Light Shows” by the magazine. Produced by Quantum Theatricals, the show was the conclusion of Cunard’s 175th anniversary.

Designing the show presented it’s own unique challenges to Chamblin. He is quoted in the article “… there were issues with the lifeboats and their proximity to the fixtures. When the lights were [placed in position] and pointed straight up, the fixtures were probably only about five or six feet away from the bottom of the lifeboats. Considering their power, the lights could burn a hole in the lifeboats.”

Since graduating, Chamblin has worked for Epic Theatre ensemble, The Public, Ars Nova, The New York Musical Theatre Festival, Goodspeed, Barter Theatre, Asolo Rep, Florida Studio Theatre, and Two River Theatre Company. He is currently the Senior Lighting Designer at Luce Group. His work can also be seen as part of the School’s season where Chamblin is the Lighting Designer for Some Girl(s) and The Garden of Rikki Tikki Tavi.
