Hot Kitchen Collective, founded by eight FSU School of Theatre alums, is premiering BIG SCIENCE with Steppenwolf Theatre Company this January. The group was asked to bring their show to Steppenwolf’s LookOut Series, a performance series that presents the work of emerging Chicago artists and performance legends across genre and form.
Hot Kitchen, a theatre and performance-making collective in Chicago, devises performances and experiences with a focus on the stupid and the absurd, disregarding the plot structures of traditional plays.
BIG SCIENCE is a brand new performance directed by Jiana Estes and Audrey Polinski, and is created and performed by Lindsey Barlag Thornton, Kaylyn Carter, Claudia Castillo, Carol Crosby, Katelyn Douglass, Katie Friedman, Alex Hovi, Wade Howard, Jasmine Henri Jordan and Andy Slavin.
This new performance re-purposes text, imagery, and movement from the scientific field, juxtaposed with the performers’ own essays and personal stories. It is an adventure through the cosmos, a blast-off into the unknown, and a journey to find out if dark matter really does exist.
