The School of Theatre Develops A Stronger Relationship with Asolo Conservatory

Published December 19, 2018

The School of Theatre annually hosts a group of MFA Actors from the Asolo Conservatory located in Sarasota, FL. The Asolo is a satellite campus of Florida State University that officially partnered with the School of Theatre in 1973 to mentor the actors in its MFA program – a relationship which became the highly acclaimed FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training.

When the MFA actors visited the FSU Tallahassee campus in November, they extended their usual one-day production tour visit to three days of exploring the School of Theatre and the FSU campus. In building a stronger relationship, the School of Theatre provided opportunities for the Asolo students to immerse themselves in the college’s culture and environment. They attended a performance of A New Brain at the Lab Theatre, followed by a discussion with the Director, Dramaturg, and Choreographer. They also observed and provided feedback to the Acting II class, attended an MFA Directing class/workshop, and had a meet and greet with faculty and students in the Fallon Theatre lobby. Their trip concluded with their performance of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest at the Augusta Conradi Studio Theatre.

The Asolo Conservatory’s 2018 visit was the first of many ways to develop a greater relationship with the School of Theatre in the future. Their visit this coming year is surely something to look forward to.
