Samantha (Sam) Spiers is an academic advisor with Florida State University’s Advising First Program. Sam holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Florida State University. Sam was previously housed in the College of Social Work where she advised undergraduate students pursuing the social work major. She is passionate about student success and is eager to assist and support students throughout their college experience. Sam received the Undergraduate Advising Award for the 2014-2015 academic year.
This is an excerpt from Sam’s advising philosophy:
“I always tell my students that their education is like a blank canvas where they can create their own work of art to display to the world. As an Academic Advisor, my goal is to help students recognize that they have the freedom, through their education, to create this masterpiece. I develop ongoing working relationships with my students and collaborate with them to select courses they are passionate about while paying close attention to their liberal studies and major requirements. I help students overcome obstacles, break down barriers, and help them work towards achieving their personal, academic, and career goals.”
