Rainy Edwards and Her Passion for Costuming

Published September 10, 2018

This month, Rainy Edwards (MFA Costume Design ’16) was featured in Stage Directions, (a magazine that covers the art, craft and technology behind making theater). She discusses the choices she made that allowed her to succeed in her field, as well the valuable lessons she learned at FSU. Reflecting on her time in Tallahassee, Edwards says professors taught her how “to trust [herself] and [her] viewpoint,” and the importance of adaptability. “Her future in the theater is truly limitless” remarked Lisa Mulcahy writer at Stage Directions. Tallahassee audiences might recognize Edwards’ work as seen in shows such as Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Legally Blonde. After graduating from FSU, Edwards became the head draper at Arts Center of Coastal Carolina in Hilton Head, South Carolina and also does freelance costume design for companies including Triad Stage, Lexington Children’s Theatre, GLOW Lyric Theatre, Heritage Theatre Festival, and Stagedoor Manor.
