How to Apply

To be considered for nomination for a university fellowship, students must have completed their application to the university and to the School of Theatre by January 5, 2017.  For best consideration for assistantships in the School of Theatre, we encourage you to apply by January 5, 2017.  We will continue to review applications throughout the Spring Semester until all positions are filled.

The Following Items are Required for Application to the MA Program

Please Submit the School of Theatre Graduate Application form first.

Please complete the School of Theatre Graduate Application form, upload it to the FSU Graduate Application system, and email it to Barbara Thomas.

Application to the University

Application to the University is separate from application to the School of Theatre. We will not start reviewing your application until you have uploaded your materials to the FSU Graduate Application system and finalized the application by choosing the submit button.

Statement of Purpose

Please submit a three to five page statement addressing your research interests, professional and academic goals, reasons you are applying to this program, and any relevant academic, professional, and/or creative background. For PhD applicants only, please include a description of how your doctoral work builds on or differs from your previous graduate work.

Curriculum Vitae

Please include information on your academic background and relevant professional experience (creative and otherwise), including any academic presentations and publications.

Letters of Recommendation

We request at least three letters of recommendation from those familiar with your work. At the MA level, at least two of these letters should come from an academic source. At the PhD level, all three should come from academic sources. You may submit a fourth recommendation that addresses your creative practice.

Examples of Scholarly Work

Please submit two writing samples (roughly 15-20 pages each) that demonstrate your ability to conduct original scholarly research at the graduate level.

Creative Work Samples (Optional)

In addition to the academic samples, applicants may submit evidence of creative work. Please note that these materials will not be returned.

Official GRE and, for international students, TOEFL iBT Score Reports

Applications are not complete until official scores are received by the University.

Official Academic Transcripts

Applications are not complete until official transcripts are received by the University.

When you have submitted all application materials and requested all exam scores and transcripts, email Barbara Thomas again to confirm receipt. If you have questions about the application process, you may also contact Barbara Thomas at 850.644.7234.
