FSU Alum Brings Back Funk-Pop

Published April 23, 2019

“Camille Trust is a woman who thrives on funk, sass and pure female empowerment and it is captivating.” – Substream Magazine,

Camille Trust (BA Theatre ‘12) is keeping the 70’s and 90’s classics alive with her funk-pop music. Her recent single, Scandalous, was ranked by Time Magazine as one of the “5 songs you need to listen to.”

Trust has always dreamed of performing on stage. As a young girl, she watched pop artists like Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears and said, “That’s going to be me one day.” Seeing theatre as a way to pursue her dreams, Camille enrolled in Florida State University’s theatre program.

Following graduation, Trust moved to New York to audition for musical theatre but found herself returning to her love of pop and soulful music. Her inspirations were Chaka Khan, James Brown, Prince, and many more. In 2018, she recorded and released her first two singles, No Matter and Lose You. To date, these songs have reached over 1,000,000 streams. A couple of months after her singles, she graced her fans with No Other Way, a debut EP that reviewers called, “sultry, soulful, and most importantly– painfully relatable.”

Camille’s continued success with her new single solidifies her as someone to watch in the new year.
